Linux Administration 1 — the fundamentals of running a server

Linux is the foundation on which cloud, distributed storage and container platforms are built. Difficulties encountered with these advanced technologies very often stem from the underlying system rather than the concepts themselves. This first module builds full autonomy on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server, from the command line to remote administration.

Training objectives

  • Work efficiently on the command line and within the file system hierarchy.
  • Manage users, groups, permissions and superuser access.
  • Control processes, systemd services and system daemons.
  • Secure remote access with SSH and key-based authentication.
  • Configure networking, name resolution and package management.
  • Administer file systems and mounts, and analyse a server remotely.

Target audience

  • Junior systems administrators and support technicians.
  • Operators required to work on Linux servers.
  • Future infrastructure, cloud or storage engineers.

Prerequisites

  • General computing literacy and workstation experience.
  • TCP/IP networking understanding appreciated.
  • No prior Linux knowledge required.
