Nutanix AHV and Prism — administering a hyperconverged infrastructure

Nutanix brings compute, storage and virtualization together in a single software-driven building block. This course covers the day-to-day operation of a cluster running the AHV hypervisor, its distributed storage layer and the centralized management consoles.

Training objectives

  • Understand the Nutanix architecture and how its storage layer works.
  • Administer a cluster through the Prism Element and Prism Central consoles.
  • Create and operate virtual machines, images, snapshots and categories.
  • Configure AHV networking: virtual switches, VLANs and micro-segmentation.
  • Implement data protection, replication and recovery.
  • Handle routine operations: upgrades, capacity planning and alerting.

Target audience

  • Systems administrators and infrastructure engineers.
  • Teams operating a hyperconverged platform.
  • Architects evaluating a hyperconverged platform.

Prerequisites

  • General understanding of virtualization and storage concepts.
  • Basic Linux administration and TCP/IP networking.

Detailed program

Day 1 — Architecture and first steps

  • Hyperconvergence principles and platform positioning
  • Distributed storage layer: containers, replication and tiering
  • Management consoles: navigation, dashboards and tasks

Day 2 — Running workloads

  • Virtual machine lifecycle under AHV
  • Images, snapshots, cloning and categories
  • AHV networking: virtual switches, VLANs and micro-segmentation

Day 3 — Resilience and routine operations

  • Protection domains, replication and recovery scenarios
  • Non-disruptive cluster upgrades
  • Monitoring, alerting, capacity analysis and reporting
