Terraform and OpenTofu — infrastructure as code in practice

Terraform and its community derivative OpenTofu have established a declarative model for provisioning infrastructure: the code describes the desired state and the tool computes and applies the difference. This course covers the full cycle, from the first configuration file through to collaborative state management across multiple environments.

Training objectives

  • Understand the declarative model, dependency graph and apply cycle.
  • Write structured configurations: resources, variables, outputs, expressions.
  • Manage state: remote backends, locking, import and safe manipulation.
  • Design reusable and versioned modules.
  • Provision OpenStack, Proxmox VE and Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Industrialize: multiple environments, secrets, testing and CI.

Target audience

  • DevOps engineers, SREs and cloud administrators.
  • Infrastructure architects and engineers.
  • Platform teams industrializing their deployments.

Prerequisites

  • Linux administration and cloud or virtualization basics.
  • Version control basics appreciated.
